The City of Peoria announced on Apr. 15 that it will celebrate Arbor Day by planting a ceremonial tree along the city’s riverfront in partnership with the South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria and the Peoria Park District.
The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24, at Riverfront Festival Park near the Gateway Building. Residents are invited to attend and participate in commemorating Arbor Day.
This year, Peoria has again been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. The city has earned this designation for the 33rd year, joining more than 3,400 communities across the country that meet the program’s standards for urban forestry management.
According to information released by the city, the Public Works Forestry Division plants between 70 and 100 trees each year. These trees are planted in various locations including city-owned lots, rights-of-way, boulevard areas, and throughout downtown to improve environmental health and quality of life.
The annual celebration highlights Peoria’s ongoing commitment to urban forestry and environmental stewardship.
