The Village of Pingree Grove announced on Apr. 24 that it will launch a new subscription-based composting service for residents beginning May 27.
The initiative aims to provide an accessible option for community members interested in reducing food waste and supporting environmental sustainability through composting.
According to the announcement, the service will include collection, transportation, and composting of food scraps and other accepted materials. Residents who subscribe will receive clean, sanitized five-gallon buckets that are swapped out at each pickup. The pickups are scheduled every other Wednesday at curbside locations.
As part of the program, participants are eligible to receive a free bag of finished composted soil weighing between twelve and fifteen pounds once per year. This giveback is intended as an incentive for participation and allows residents to benefit directly from their contributions.
WasteNot, the provider facilitating this new service, will be available for questions or information at the upcoming Touch-a-Truck event on May 2.
Looking ahead, officials encourage interested residents to learn more about how they can participate in this program designed to promote sustainable practices within Pingree Grove.
