Representative Amy Grant will formally present House Joint Resolution 60, which designates a portion of Illinois Route 38 in Wheaton as the “U.S. Army SSG Robert J. Miller Memorial Highway,” during the Opening Ceremony of the Field of Honor event on June 30.

The ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Seven Gables Park, located at 1750 S. Naperville Road in Wheaton.

House Joint Resolution 60 of the 103rd General Assembly, sponsored by Grant and Senator Seth Lewis, names the section of Route 38 between County Farm Road and Winfield Road after Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller, a Wheaton native and Medal of Honor recipient who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2008.

“As I prepare to retire from the Illinois House, it is especially meaningful to help protect Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller’s legacy here in his hometown,” said Representative Amy Grant. “Robert Miller is an American hero who displayed extraordinary courage and selflessness in defense of our nation. This memorial highway designation is a lasting tribute to his sacrifice, his service, and the values he represented.”

Staff Sgt. Miller grew up in Wheaton and attended St. Michael School and Wheaton North High School before enlisting in the United States Army in 2003. He served with the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and was deployed twice to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom before being killed during an enemy ambush on January 25, 2008.

Grant was elected to represent Illinois’ 47th House District as a Republican in 2023, replacing Deanne Mazzochi, according to Ballotpedia.
