Illinois State Representative Bradley J. Fritts announced on May 19 that the Illinois General Assembly is entering its final stretch of the legislative session, with only ten scheduled days remaining before adjournment. Lawmakers are expected to pass the Fiscal Year 2027 budget by the end of May.
Fritts said it is a critical time for decision-making in Springfield, as legislators work to finalize key policies and address issues important to their constituents. He encouraged residents to stay informed about upcoming session days and committee meetings through official channels.
Fritts also addressed House Bill 4471, which he described as “a backdoor gun grab,” urging citizens to file witness slips in opposition. In addition, he spoke at a recent press conference focused on affordability in Illinois, advocating for House Bill 5738: “Affordability is the top issue for Illinoisans. At any time, Governor Pritzker could join our efforts by temporarily suspending the state sales tax on gas, which is a tax on a tax. I signed onto House Bill 5738, which would suspend the state sales tax on gas for six months, to allow Illinois families to save a little bit of extra money every time they fill their tank.” Fritts continued: “But instead of providing meaningful relief, the Governor would rather keep this added tax and then turn around and say this is all President Trump’s fault. Well, good leaders don’t pass the buck. They take accountability and find solutions to problems.” He called upon fellow lawmakers “to support this common-sense piece of legislation aimed at making life more affordable here in Illinois.”
The representative highlighted several recent community events including celebrations for CGH Medical Center’s renovation and participation in annual police and firefighter memorials in Springfield: “Every year, we attend this memorial to show our support for the brave men and women who serve and protect our communities… Thank you for all that you do!” He also recognized United Way Lee County’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library program: “Thank you to United Way for the incredible work you do to improve the lives of residents in our area!”
In partnership with State Senator Li Arellano and Rep. Darin LaHood, Fritts presented a $2 million check supporting development of Fargo Creek Mediation Project infrastructure improvements.
Fritts was elected as a Republican representative from Illinois’ 74th District in 2023 after replacing Dan Swanson according to Ballotpedia.
