State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Rosemont) announced on May 11 that his annual Summer Reading Program is now open to students in the 20th District. The “Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program” invites young readers to participate over their summer vacation.

The program aims to encourage continued learning and imagination among children during the summer months. “Reading throughout the summer months is essential for kids to keep up their learning and grow their imagination,” said Stephens. “I encourage eligible students pick up a great book this summer and dive right in!”

Students from kindergarten through eighth grade who live in or attend school within the district are eligible to join by reading ten books during the break. Books longer than 150 pages may be counted as two, and books read as part of local library programs also qualify toward the total.

Upon completing ten books, participants will receive a voucher for two tickets to a Chicago Wolves game. Parents can submit their child’s completed reading list using an online form or by mailing or dropping off a paper version at Representative Stephens’ district office at 8323 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. All forms must be submitted by August 14.

Informational brochures about state and local programs will also be available, and constituents with questions are encouraged to call (773) 444-0611.

Stephens, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 20th House District, replacing previous state representative Michael P. McAuliffe, according to Ballotpedia.
