Illinois State Representative Charlie Meier reported on April 21 that he has advanced several bills through the House ahead of last Friday’s legislative deadline. Meier said he will provide more details about these initiatives as the spring session enters its final month.
Meier highlighted recent celebrations at the Capitol, including honoring the Breese Central Cougar Women Basketball Team and Cheerleading Team for their state championship victories. The Breese Central High School Cougars won the 2026 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A Girls Basketball State Championship by defeating Byron, marking their second title in program history. The school also secured the 2026 IHSA Competitive Cheerleading State Championship in Class 1A. To recognize these accomplishments, Meier filed House Resolutions 737 and 750.
In addition to legislative work, Meier addressed Second Amendment rights during Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD), which he described as a significant demonstration supporting gun owners’ rights nationwide. He noted that IGOLD is primarily sponsored by the Illinois State Rifle Association.
Meier also joined disability advocates at a press conference in Springfield to discuss reform bills targeting issues within the Illinois Department of Human Services. He said these efforts aim to address critical failures affecting individuals with disabilities.
According to Ballotpedia, Meier was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 109th House District in 2023, succeeding David Reis according to Ballotpedia.
Looking ahead, Meier stated his commitment to advocating for Southern Illinois values as he returns to Springfield for continued legislative work.
