State Representative Dennis Tipsword (R-Metamora) issued a statement on June 1 following the passage of the fiscal year 2027 Illinois state budget.
Tipsword said, “Democrats promised affordability this year; instead, they once again delivered the largest state budget in history well past the midnight deadline and deep into the early morning hours of June 1. The $55.9 billion budget contains $800 million in new taxes and fees, higher costs for families, and no meaningful taxpayer relief. More money was set aside for Democrats’ pork projects, illegal immigrants, and legislator pay raises, among other expenditures. Also, the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) was frozen at the same level as last year, providing no relief to local communities. This will likely result in higher property taxes and less funding for critical services. The bottom line is clear: Illinois families need lower taxes, lower costs, and responsible spending. This budget does the exact opposite.”
The statement highlights concerns about increased spending levels compared to previous years and criticizes what Tipsword describes as insufficient tax relief for residents.
Tipsword also pointed out that freezing funding to local governments could have an impact on property taxes and essential services across communities.
Tipsword has represented Illinois House District 105 since his election in 2023 after replacing former State Representative Dan Brady, according to his office.
