Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt said on April 24 that he supported the recent passage of HB 910, known as the Megaprojects Bill, in the Illinois House with a bipartisan vote of 78-32.

The bill is intended to give local governments more control and aims to attract new jobs to regions like Schmidt’s district. This legislation could affect economic growth and employment opportunities for residents in border districts.

“This bill protects local control and establishes a tool to bring jobs to our region,” said Rep. Kevin Schmidt. “I voted for this bill because I represent a border district, and we know all too well the opportunities that we lose out on because of better, business-friendly policy in neighboring states. We need every mechanism to grow our economy and put our skilled labor to work.”

Schmidt also said he will continue working on key issues important to his constituents: “I know that my constituents’ top priorities are lowering property taxes and creating more jobs in the region. I’ll keep up the work to safeguard taxpayers as discussions continue and this bill moves through the legislative process.”

Schmidt was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 114th House District in 2023, succeeding LaToya Greenwood according to available information.

The next steps for HB 910 include further discussion as it advances through the legislative process.
