Illinois State Representative Martin McLaughlin visited Libertyville High School on April 27, where he spoke with several classes and answered questions from students. McLaughlin said the visit included discussions about how things work in Springfield, describing the experience as an opportunity to address both positive and challenging aspects of state government.
The visit is part of McLaughlin’s ongoing engagement with young people in his district. He said, “Thanks to the teachers, staff, and students at Libertyville High School for letting me drop in and speak with a few classes this afternoon. Great questions and lots of curiosity about how things really work in Springfield—the good and the not-so-good! I do this job for their futures.”
McLaughlin encouraged families interested in learning more about state government to reach out if their student would like to serve as a page for a day.
McLaughlin was elected as a Republican representative to the Illinois State House in 2021 for the state’s 52nd House District, succeeding David McSweeney according to available records.
Visits like these are intended to help students understand legislative processes and foster civic engagement among young people.
