State Representative Paul Jacobs voted no on the fiscal year 2027 budget, which was passed on the last day of session and totals $55.9 billion, according to a June 1 statement. The budget is now the largest in Illinois history and includes $800 million in increased taxes and fees, $410 million allocated to programs for illegal immigrants, hundreds of millions directed toward Democratic projects, and pay raises for politicians.
“When families are trying to afford high fuel prices, rising utilities rates, and pay for their kids’ educations, the Governor and his allies continue to spend more and tax more,” said Jacobs. “What happened to common-sense, basic math, and accountability in Illinois? I voted NO on this latest record-spending budget.”
Jacobs encouraged constituents to follow legislative activities at ilga.gov or contact his office with concerns or for assistance with state programs.
Jacobs is a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 representing the state’s 118th House District after replacing previous state representative Patrick Windhorst, according to Rep. Paul Jacobs’ official website.
The passage of this budget marks another increase in spending by the state legislature as debates over fiscal responsibility continue.
