State Representative Wayne Rosenthal said on June 1 that he opposes the $55.9 billion budget passed by the Illinois legislature at the end of the spring session.

Rosenthal said, “Illinois families, farmers, and small businesses are tightening their belts to make ends meet, yet Springfield continues to spend more and ask taxpayers to pay more. This budget grows state government once again, includes $800 million in new taxes and fees, funds programs that should not be priorities, and even provides pay raises for politicians.”

He continued, “At the end of another legislative session, my focus remains the same: protecting taxpayers, supporting our agricultural communities, and creating opportunities for Illinois families to succeed. While I appreciate investments in important services, I remain concerned about the continued growth in state spending and the lack of meaningful tax relief. Illinois residents deserve a government that operates with the same fiscal discipline they practice every day.”

Rosenthal also said, “We should be focused on lowering costs, supporting agriculture, creating an environment where businesses can grow, and making Illinois a place where families want to stay and build their future. Instead of another record-breaking spending plan, we should be delivering responsible budgets that live within our means and put hardworking Illinoisans first.”

Rosenthal is a Republican who was elected to represent Illinois’ 108th House District in 2023 after replacing previous representative Charles Meier, according to Rep. Rosenthal’s office.
