State Representative Ryan Spain announced on May 8 the launch of his tenth annual Summer Reading Club Program for grade school students in kindergarten through fifth grade who live in the 73rd House District. The program aims to encourage children to read during their summer break and highlights the importance of literacy.
Spain said, “Keeping the mind active through reading over summer break helps ensure students enter the next school year on the front foot. My Summer Reading Program is a fun way to reward students by simply reading eight books over their summer break and returning a form signed by a parent or guardian. It’s important for all of us to encourage students to get ahead by becoming better readers.”
Brochures with details about the program have been distributed through most area schools, and information is also available on Rep. Spain’s website or by calling his Peoria District Office at 309-690-7373. Students can participate in this program alongside other summer reading initiatives offered by local libraries or schools.
To take part, students must read eight books before July 31 and submit a completion form signed by a parent or guardian. Participants will receive special recognition and a prize upon completion. Forms may be submitted electronically as well.
Spain, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2017 to represent the state’s 73rd House District, replacing previous state representative David R. Leitch, according to Ballotpedia.
The program seeks not only to motivate young readers but also reinforces community support for educational activities during summer months.
