State Representative Kevin Schmidt announced on May 4 that he has donated his legislative pay raise for the month of April to the Mascoutah Food Pantry and Concerned Christians. Schmidt said he voted against the pay raise and is pledging to give it to local organizations in the 114th District to support families in need.

The move aims to help address food insecurity in Mascoutah and surrounding areas. The donation included essential food items such as sugar, brown sugar, cooking oil, and egg noodles for distribution by the pantry.

“Helping the community is a priority of mine, and I’m proud to support local food pantries that serve families in need,” Schmidt said. “When communities come together to support one another, it makes a real difference.”

The Mascoutah Food Pantry is operated by Concerned Christians, a coalition of local churches providing food assistance and emergency services. Donations can be dropped off at 17 West Main Street in Mascoutah using a box located on the north side of the building.

Schmidt was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 114th House District in 2023, succeeding LaToya Greenwood, according to Ballotpedia.

More information about area food pantries is available on Rep. Schmidt’s website.
