State Representative Kevin Schmidt announced on April 28 that he will host a Tire Recycling Event and Food Drive in Smithton, inviting residents of the area to participate. The event aims to provide a safe way for constituents to dispose of old tires while also collecting non-perishable food items for local pantries throughout the 114th District.

Schmidt said, “The purpose of this event is to give my constituents a way to recycle their old tires while also collecting food for our community. Safely disposing old tires reduces landfill waste and creates useful products that can be used to serve other purposes.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Smithton Community Park, located at 65 Memorial Drive in Smithton. Attendees are encouraged to drive up with their tires, which staff will unload and place into the recycling truck. Non-perishable food donations will be accepted during the same time.

Schmidt’s office encourages anyone with questions about the event or donation process to contact them directly at (618)-215-1050.

Schmidt was elected as a Republican representative in Illinois’ State House in 2023, taking over from LaToya Greenwood as representative of the state’s 114th House District according to Ballotpedia.

The initiative highlights ongoing efforts by local officials like Schmidt to promote environmental responsibility while supporting community needs through charitable drives.
