Illinois State Representative Dennis Tipsword Jr. said on May 21 that House Republicans held a press conference in Springfield to address concerns about HB 4471, a bill recently passed by the House Gun Violence Prevention committee. Tipsword said the group stood up for law-abiding gun owners and discussed what he described as the consequences and potential fallout of the proposed legislation.
HB 4471 would introduce restrictions amounting to a de facto ban on the sale and manufacture of certain Glock pistols in Illinois, according to Tipsword. The bill’s progress through committee has raised questions among lawmakers and residents about its potential effects on firearm access and local businesses.
“At a press conference today in Springfield, House Republicans stood up for law-abiding gun owners. I discussed the consequences and potential fallout of HB 4471, which was passed yesterday by the House Gun Violence Prevention committee. HB 4471 would implement a de facto ban on the sale and manufacture of certain Glock pistols in Illinois,” Tipsword said.
Tipsword was elected to represent Illinois’ 105th House District as a Republican in 2023, succeeding former state representative Dan Brady, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
The discussion around HB 4471 comes amid ongoing debates over gun control measures across the state. Lawmakers are expected to continue considering public input as they move forward with legislative action.
