Illinois State Representative Dennis Tipsword Jr. announced on April 17 a summary of recent events and issues affecting the state in his latest e-newsletter.
The newsletter discusses several topics including the Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD) event at the State Capitol, upcoming job screenings for corrections officers, trends in resident outmigration, estate tax reform, and preparations for America’s 250th birthday.
Tipsword said thousands of responsible gun owners visited Springfield for IGOLD to advocate for personal freedoms. “We champion those who continue to stand up for personal freedoms and oppose dangerous, costly, and unconstitutional legislation that continues to be pushed by the majority party in Illinois. House Republicans will not stand for these continued attacks on our Second Amendment rights,” Tipsword said.
The newsletter also mentions that the Illinois Department of Corrections is hosting screenings for Corrections Officer and Treatment Officer trainee positions on April 30 in Pontiac. Additionally, new data from the Internal Revenue Service shows that Illinois had the third largest loss of resident income due to moves to other states in 2023. The high cost-of-living is cited as a major factor driving people to seek more affordable places.
Tipsword addressed concerns about Illinois’ estate tax, stating it disproportionately affects farm families and called for reforms to support agriculture within the state. He also invited residents to participate in America’s upcoming semiquincentennial by sharing their stories through “Illinois Voices 250,” an initiative whose recordings will be preserved at the U.S. Library of Congress.
Tipsword was elected as a Republican representative to serve Illinois’ 105th House District in 2023 after replacing Dan Brady according to available information.
