Illinois State Representative Dan Ugaste said on May 5 that Governor J.B. Pritzker and leading House Democrats have finally recognized the issue of rising property taxes after pressure from House Republicans. Ugaste called for a bipartisan approach to address the problem, saying, “The Governor and prominent House Democrats finally acknowledged skyrocketing property taxes after House Republicans pushed the point to where it could not be ignored. If they are serious about making substantial inroads on the problem, they should include House Republicans to devise a workable solution. We have introduced many bills and proposed numerous solutions to tackle this issue.”
Property taxes remain a significant concern for many residents across Illinois, with debates continuing over how best to manage increases and provide relief. Ugaste’s comments highlight ongoing efforts by Republican lawmakers to participate in legislative solutions.
Ugaste has served as a Republican member of the Illinois State House since 2019, representing the state’s 65th District after replacing former state representative Steven Andersson, according to Ballotpedia.
The push for cooperation between parties comes as both sides seek effective strategies that can offer meaningful relief to taxpayers. The discussion reflects broader conversations happening statewide about fiscal policy and government accountability.
Observers will be watching closely whether Democratic leaders respond positively to calls for more inclusive negotiations on this key issue.
