Illinois State Representative Dan Ugaste said on June 3 that a last-minute bill for a new Chicago Bears stadium passed the Senate but was not brought to a vote in the House before the Spring Session adjourned early Monday morning. Ugaste said, “Democrats are going to need Republican support, and all we’re asking is simple. We need to address property taxes for everyone in Illinois. If we can do that, we’re happy to help the Bears and get this deal done.”
The proposed legislation concerning the new Bears stadium will require bipartisan cooperation when lawmakers reconvene. According to Ugaste, Republican support hinges on addressing broader concerns about property taxes across Illinois.
Ugaste, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 65th House District, replacing previous state representative Steven Andersson, according to RepUgaste.com.
The next steps for both the stadium project and potential property tax reforms remain uncertain until legislative sessions resume.
