Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver announced on April 17 a series of initiatives and legislative updates in his latest e-newsletter to constituents. The newsletter highlights ongoing community engagement projects, student participation opportunities, and commentary on recent state legislation.
Weaver’s annual Community Clean-Up Project began this week and will continue through May 22. The project encourages individuals to collect litter and properly dispose of it, with students invited to submit photos of their efforts for recognition. Students who participate must have parental permission to pick up trash in their chosen location. Those who fill a standard kitchen-size trash bag with litter can submit a photo to communitycleanup2026@reptravisweaver.org and will receive a Certificate of Service from Weaver.
The newsletter also spotlights the State Colors Project, which involves students from Pekin Community High School and East Aurora High School working toward establishing official state colors for Illinois—a designation not currently covered under the State Designations Act. All students across Illinois are invited to vote for the state’s colors by completing an online survey before April 23 at 11:59 p.m., accessible via Weaver’s website.
Weaver addressed legislative issues related to Second Amendment rights, expressing opposition to new bills such as the RIFL Act (HB 3320), which he described as “yet another overreaching piece of legislation that will drive up costs for law-abiding gun owners.” He encouraged constituents to oppose this bill.
On education policy, Weaver discussed the potential benefits of Illinois opting into a Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program that could impact both public and private school students statewide. He referenced his recent appearance on WMBD News where he also discussed possible Chicago Bears-related legislation.
Addressing fiscal concerns, Weaver criticized Governor Pritzker’s administration regarding property taxes, stating that “property taxes are way up under his administration” and noting that House Republicans have proposed solutions for relief. He further stated that there have been “49 tax and fee hikes enacted during his tenure” including $700 million in new taxes signed into last year’s budget.
Weaver was elected as a Republican representative in the Illinois State House in 2023 for the state’s 93rd House District, succeeding Norine Hammond according to available records.
