Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver announced on May 15 several initiatives and updates for residents of the 93rd District. The topics include a new federal education tax credit program, a local community clean-up effort, school infrastructure grants, and recognition of fallen first responders.

The Educational Choice for Children Act is offering up to $1,700 in federal tax credits to help fund scholarships, tutoring, and educational support for K-12 students in Illinois. Weaver said that all Governor Pritzker needs to do is opt into the program. He encouraged residents to sign a petition supporting this initiative on his website.

Weaver also reminded constituents about his annual Community Clean-Up Project. Students and classrooms throughout District 93 are invited to participate by picking up trash in their communities. “Please submit photos of you or your class picking up bags of trash to communitycleanup2026@reptravisweaver.org. All are welcome to participate, and participating students will receive a Certificate of Recognition from the General Assembly.” The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 22.

In addition, Weaver congratulated the city of Kewanee and Kewanee School District #229 on securing a $250,000 Safe Routes to School Grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation for Belle Alexander School. The funds will be used for new sidewalks, crosswalks, and ADA-compliant curb ramps as part of broader infrastructure improvements around the school.

The newsletter also highlighted recent ceremonies at the Capitol honoring fallen police officers and firefighters from across Illinois. “These solemn ceremonies honored the bravery, service, and sacrifice of those who lost their lives in the line of duty,” Weaver said.

Weaver commented on state fiscal issues as well: “Illinoisans continue to pay the highest combined state and local tax rate in the country,” he said. He called for reduced government spending while reaffirming House Republicans’ commitment to policies aimed at lowering costs for families.

Weaver was elected as a Republican representative in 2023 for Illinois’ 93rd House District after succeeding Norine Hammond, according to Ballotpedia.
