Illinois State Representative Tom Weber provided a budget update on May 28, as the spring session deadline of May 31 approaches. Weber said that while Democrats have filed budget bills based on the Governor’s proposal, he believes that is not the final product. He said, “That proposal relies on increasing taxes, again! That’s not what we need.”
Weber emphasized concerns about affordability for Illinois residents and called for fiscal restraint from state government. “The people of Illinois are struggling with affordability, and need the state to live within its means, not another tax increase!” Weber said.
Weber was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 64th House District, replacing previous state representative Barbara Wheeler, according to his office.
The spring legislative session typically concludes at the end of May each year, with lawmakers working toward passing a balanced budget before adjournment.
