The City of Rockford announced on May 21 that the IRONMAN race will take place on Sunday, June 14. Residents are being asked to plan ahead due to road closures and traffic impacts during the event.

The city said it received positive feedback from last year’s event but also heard that some residents were not aware of all the road closures and traffic changes. This year, officials want to ensure everyone is informed so they can prepare in advance.

A full list of street closures and traffic impacts for race weekend is available at IRONMAN. The information includes which streets in Rockford and Winnebago County will be affected, as well as the times when roads will close and reopen.

Key impacts include limited downtown Rockford street closures starting Friday, June 12, with major race day closures throughout downtown, the riverfront area, north Rockford, Winnebago County, and Rockton on Sunday, June 14. Athletes from across the country are expected to compete in a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run throughout the community.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time during race weekend and use detour routes where possible. The city invites people to cheer for athletes or volunteer along the course.
