The Sangamon County Bar Association hosted its annual Law Day program on May 1 at Maldaner’s restaurant in Springfield. The event featured Eugene Doherty of the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court and Lance Peterson of the Illinois Third Appellate Court as speakers, with David J. Robinson, Chief Deputy Director of the Illinois State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, serving as moderator.
This year’s theme was “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.” The event was co-sponsored by several organizations including the Illinois State Bar Association, Lincoln-Douglas Inn of Court, Appellate Lawyers Association of Illinois, Government Bar Association, and Central Illinois Women’s Bar Association.
The Illinois Bar Association supports lawyers across the state by providing continuing legal education, practice management resources and professional networking opportunities. It also promotes diversity, equity and inclusion to foster participation among all attorneys and enhance community wellbeing. The association recognizes excellence through awards for pro bono service and diversity leadership. Additionally, it utilizes the Illinois Bar Center for administrative and educational operations. These activities are carried out under the guidance of an elected president, a Board of Governors and an Assembly. The association serves more than 28,000 members across Illinois according to the official website.
Law Day programs like this one aim to highlight important legal principles such as rule of law while bringing together members from different segments of the legal community.
