Illinois State Representative Brad Fritts announced on May 13 that his office will join the Lee County Health Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Dixon Police Department, and Dixon Township to host a Sharps and Rx Drop-Off Drive. The event is set for tomorrow from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dixon Township Building located at 315 Highland Avenue in Dixon.

The drive aims to give local residents a safe way to dispose of residential sharps as well as unused, expired, or unneeded prescription medications. Organizers say this effort helps make homes and the community safer by preventing improper disposal of these items.

“All local residents are invited to safely dispose of their residential sharps and unused, expired, or unneeded prescription medications. This is an easy and convenient event – providing two services in one location. I look forward to working alongside our partners to make our homes and community safer!” Fritts said.

Fritts was elected as a Republican member of the Illinois State House in 2023 representing the state’s 74th House District after replacing former state representative Dan Swanson, according to Ballotpedia.

The event reflects ongoing efforts by local officials and agencies to promote public health initiatives that address safe disposal practices within communities.
