The Southern Illinois track and field team will compete at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington on May 1, marking its last regular-season event before the Outdoor Missouri Valley Conference Championships scheduled for May 16-17.

This weekend’s meet gives athletes a final opportunity to improve their performances ahead of the postseason. The Salukis have shown strong results during the outdoor season, with several personal bests, program records, and high rankings within the Missouri Valley Conference.

Competition at the Jim Green Invitational starts Friday at noon Eastern Time with the women’s hammer throw and concludes with the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at 6:45 p.m. Eastern Time. The women’s team is led by Leah Thames, who holds top-three conference positions in three sprint events. The women’s relay teams and field event athletes are also ranked among conference leaders heading into this weekend.

On the men’s side, Kwame Smith leads in both individual sprints and as part of a strong relay squad. Jalen Dickerson is first in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, while teammates like Shane Ashton and Malik Allen are also highly ranked in their respective events. Freshman Jordan Smith has made an immediate impact by securing second place in javelin within the conference standings.

Southern Illinois Salukis Men’s Track and Field competes at NCAA Division I level as part of the Missouri Valley Conference according to its official website.
