Southern Illinois University Athletics reported on Apr. 27 that several of its spring sports teams are nearing the end of their regular seasons, with competitions and tournaments taking place this week.

In softball, Southern Illinois split a doubleheader against Murray State, winning the first game 4-3 with Hayden Kurtz hitting a decisive home run. Emily Delgado secured the win in relief by pitching 2.2 hitless innings. The team lost the second game 3-0 but will finish its regular season this week with games against SIUE and UIC.
Baseball experienced three losses out of four games last week, including a walk-off win against Murray State where Bryce Habuda delivered the final hit and Julio Guerrero contributed four runs batted in. Upcoming games include an away match at Lindenwood followed by a home series versus Indiana State during Alumni Weekend.
The men’s golf team began their week at the Hawkeye Invitational, finishing second overall with several top-13 individual placements from Ben Keil, Anthony De Schutter, Jaeseung Na, and Blake Saffell. They continue competing in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships through Tuesday. Women’s golf completed its MVC Championship appearance last week with Kayla Sayyalinh placing second individually.
Track and field athletes are preparing for their final meet before conference championships at this week’s Jim Green Invite. Southern Illinois University Athletics teams compete in the Missouri Valley Conference according to the official website.
