The Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Softball team will host SIUE on Wednesday, April 29, for its last home game of the regular season at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale.
This matchup marks an important moment as it is the final opportunity for fans to see the team play at home before postseason tournaments begin. The event will feature “Greek Night” and a cookout hosted by the Dawg Pound. The Salukis are currently second in the Missouri Valley Conference with a record of 29-15 overall and 18-6 in conference play.
The Salukis played two games last week against Murray State, splitting results with one win and one loss. Hayden Kurtz hit a go-ahead two-run home run to secure a victory in game one, while Amanda Knutson led with two hits. Pitcher Emily Delgado earned her ninth win after not allowing any runs or hits across nearly three innings out of the bullpen. In their most recent outing, Knutson again led offensively despite a loss.
According to the official website, the Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Softball team participates in NCAA Division I competitions and maintains membership in the Missouri Valley Conference. Home games are held at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale. The program is based locally and competes specifically in NCAA Division I softball according to university information.
SIUE enters Wednesday’s contest with an even record of 25-25 overall and sits third place in its conference. Historically, Southern Illinois leads the series against SIUE, having won 41 out of their 50 meetings so far. Their most recent meeting was on February 26, 2023, where Southern Illinois secured a narrow victory.
Looking ahead, after facing SIUE at home, Southern Illinois will travel to UIC for a weekend doubleheader before returning for the Missouri Valley Conference tournament beginning May 6. The team’s performance this season has positioned them well both within their conference standings and statistically among top players individually.
