Southern Illinois University Carbondale announced on April 14 that it will host SouthernTECH 2026: Harnessing Technology for Government Contract Success, a hybrid event aimed at businesses and university researchers interested in government contracting, cybersecurity compliance, and innovation funding. The event is scheduled for April 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Gower Translational Research Center in Carbondale, with both in-person and virtual participation available free of charge.
The event is designed to provide practical strategies for competing in the evolving government marketplace and offers insights into translating research innovations into real-world impact. National experts who have assisted businesses in securing federal contract awards will lead sessions focused on topics such as artificial intelligence strategy, cybersecurity requirements, and pathways to commercialization.
Michael LeJeune of RSM Federal will open the program with a session on building predictable sales pipelines using artificial intelligence and market intelligence tools while emphasizing the importance of human judgment and relationships. Attendees will receive a complimentary e-book by LeJeune titled “I’m New to Government Contracting.”
Cybersecurity expert Leslie Weinstein will lead a fireside chat discussion clarifying Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements. Weinstein’s session aims to help participants understand when CMMC applies, distinguish between Levels 1-3, avoid common mistakes, and prepare for self-assessments or future certification needs.
Jerry Hollister of BBC Entrepreneurial Training & Consulting LLC will address how ideas move from early-stage innovation through funded projects to real-world application. His presentation targets university researchers, startups, and technology developers seeking funding opportunities through programs such as Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), Other Transactional Authority (OTA), and Broad Agency Announcements.
In-person attendees can also network during a working lunch provided by the Office of Innovation and Economic Development. Pre-registration is required due to limited space for onsite participation.
