The St. Clair County Clerk’s Office announced on Apr. 29 that a public lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 5, at 10:00 a.m. to determine the order in which major political parties will appear on the ballot for the General Election scheduled for November 3, 2026.

The process is designed to ensure fairness in how party candidates are listed on all races across the ballot. The names of the Republican and Democratic parties have been placed in alphabetical order and assigned letters A and B.

During the lottery, two capsules labeled ‘A’ and ‘B’ will be placed into a container. A person will then be asked to draw one capsule from the container. The first capsule drawn will decide which party’s candidates are listed first on every race of the ballot; the second capsule drawn determines which party appears second.

According to officials, “A – REPUBLICAN PARTY” and “B – DEMOCRATIC PARTY” have been designated as part of this process.

This procedure aims to provide transparency and impartiality in preparing ballots ahead of elections.
