Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt welcomed Aubrey Rafferty, a resident of Millstadt and student at Belleville West High School, to the Capitol on May 29. Rafferty has distinguished herself as a student leader and athlete, enrolling in advanced and honors coursework while earning straight A’s during her freshman year alongside participating in volleyball and softball.

Rafferty is also an active member of the student council and is described as highly respected by teachers and peers for her integrity and willingness to support classmates. The statement said, “She is a bright, thoughtful, and determined student, and confidence and leadership attributes stand out to everyone she meets.” It continued, “People naturally tend to gravitate towards her strong character and ability to engage in meaningful discussion.”

Her family maintains longstanding ties with the University of Illinois, which she plans on attending as part of her future career goals. The statement concluded that “Aubrey is going to be a shining star in the State of Illinois!”

Schmidt was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 114th House District in 2023, replacing previous state representative LaToya Greenwood, according to his office.
