Steel Petal Press, a letterpress and greeting card studio in Logan Square, is marking its 10th anniversary by giving away free greeting cards to the community. The studio, located at 2321 N. Milwaukee Ave., will host a free card day on Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing neighbors to pick up a complimentary greeting card in celebration of the milestone.

“We wanted to give back to the community and do something for our customers,” said owner Shayna Norwood, who has lived in Logan Square for nearly two decades.

Visitors can choose from over 100 different greeting cards made in-house. Norwood said she hopes this gesture encourages neighbors to continue shopping at Steel Petal Press and reminds them that the shop aims for a strong future presence in the neighborhood.

Norwood noted that while they held a similar event for their ninth anniversary, it did not receive much attention. She said hosting it again this year on a larger scale felt appropriate.

The shop has become known locally as a destination for stationery, greeting cards, and gift items, with nationwide shipping available. Norwood started Steel Petal Press as a brand 15 years ago before opening the retail studio in 2016. The business combines retail operations with an onsite letterpress studio, producing hundreds of cards internally and employing local residents.

Norwood acknowledged challenges faced over the past decade—including navigating through the pandemic, tariffs, and costs related to an incident where a car crashed into their storefront—but emphasized that supporting neighbors and local artists has kept her motivated.

“I am really proud to still be here and that we made it this far,” Norwood said. “It feels good to know where I live, I can also contribute back to.”
