Illinois College men’s basketball coach Steve Schweer has accepted the head coaching position at UW-Oshkosh after spending the past nine seasons leading the Blueboys, it was announced on May 22.
Schweer leaves behind a record of success with Illinois College, having led the program to two NCAA Tournament appearances, two Midwest Conference regular-season titles, and two postseason tournament championships. The team also qualified for the Midwest Conference postseason tournament in each of the past five years. The Illinois College Blue Boys Basketball competes in NCAA Division III and participates in both conference and non-conference games as part of its collegiate athletics program, according to the official athletics website.
“Blueboy basketball’s incredible legacy has been enhanced on and off the court under Steve’s leadership,” Illinois College Director of Athletics Meghan Roman said. “The integrity and success that he created will continue to benefit our program moving forward. While we are sad to see him go, we are excited for Steve and his family as he takes the next step in his coaching career. We are grateful for the leadership Steve has provided in our men’s basketball program and for the impact he has made on our student-athletes, colleagues, and the entire Illinois College family.”
The team hosts home games in a dedicated on-campus gymnasium located in Jacksonville, Illinois. The program stresses competitive play and athlete development within NCAA Division III standards, according to information from the official athletics website.
Illinois College will begin a national search for a new head coach immediately.
