By Press release submission | Jun 7, 2019

Illinois Housing Development Authority issued the following announcement on June 7.

Individuals with disabilities now have a new opportunity for independent living in Cook County's western suburbs following the opening of Trinity Park Vista, a new supportive housing development in Northlake. The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) joined Trinity Services, Inc., Northlake Mayor Jeffrey Sherwin and other local officials to announce the official opening of the 16-unit property, which is designed to help residents live as independently as possible with the aid of supportive services provided on-site. Developed and managed by Trinity Services, the development was financed by an award from the Illinois Affordable Housing Trust Fund and Illinois Affordable Housing Tax Credits awarded by IHDA.

"This new development will provide both a safe home and critical services for those who need it most," IHDA Executive Director Audra Hamernik said. "There is a real need for this type of housing throughout Illinois, and it is a priority at IHDA to ensure more households have access to housing with services that support their needs."

Located near downtown Northlake and within walking distance to transportation, public services and employment opportunities, the new three-story building offers 13 one-bedroom and 3 three-bedroom units for residents with disabilities. Residents live independently with the option to receive supportive services from Trinity Services, which has office space on the first floor. Services include assistance in finding employment, help managing finances and counseling services. Apartments are leased on an annual basis and each unit features its own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living space. In addition, all 16 units receive rental assistance from IHDA's Long-Term Operating Support Program.

"Mayor Sherwin, the City of Northlake, IHDA and the organizations that helped Trinity Services develop and construct Trinity Park Vista are very supportive of people with disabilities, and we are fortunate to be able to work with them," said Thane Dykstra, Ph.D., President and CEO of Trinity Services. "These apartment units will help people live as independently as possible and provide them with the support they need to achieve the goals they set for themselves."

The new building is the latest project carried out as a part of an overall neighborhood improvement plan to increase the safety and livability of the Wolf Road corridor in Northlake. The development received significant support from Mayor Jeffrey Sherwin and the City of Northlake, which donated the site to Trinity through a 75-year lease at $1 per year.

"We are happy to have Trinity Park Vista in Northlake and look forward to their serving the needs of the community," said Northlake Mayor Jeffrey Sherwin. "There is a real need for this type of housing throughout the Chicagoland area, and this development is a great addition to our neighborhood and the City."
