The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has released updated guidance for the 2025-2026 respiratory illness season, including a statewide standing order to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines. The guidance was developed after considering recommendations from the Illinois Immunization Advisory Committee, reviewing input from medical specialty societies, and analyzing both state and national data on respiratory illnesses.
Sameer Vohra, M.D., J.D., M.A., who serves as IDPH Director and is also a member of the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS), issued a Standing Order. This order enables residents throughout Illinois to receive COVID-19 vaccines at pharmacies and other clinical settings.
For additional information or questions regarding the new vaccine policies, individuals are encouraged to contact the ISMS Health Policy Research and Advocacy team by email.
