A federal grand jury has indicted Jaydine Brown, a suburban Chicago tax preparer, on charges of preparing more than 25 fraudulent tax returns for her clients between 2020 and 2024. According to the indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Brown operated Hall Tax & Services Corp. in Flossmoor, Illinois.
Prosecutors allege that Brown prepared or assisted in preparing 26 false federal tax returns that misrepresented credits, deductions, income, and expenses. The indictment also states that she filed her own individual tax return in 2021 with substantially underreported income and did not file a corporate tax return for her business for the year 2022.
Brown, age 43 and a resident of Chicago Heights, faces 26 counts of willfully aiding and assisting in the preparation of false or fraudulent tax returns, one count of making false statements on a tax return, and one count of willful failure to file a tax return. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Friday in federal court. A status hearing is scheduled for February 24, 2026 before U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly.
The case was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Adam Jobes, Special Agent-in-Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation in Chicago. Assistant U.S. Attorney Asheeka Desai is representing the government.
“The public is reminded that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
