Thomas M. Lynch reappointed to 14-year term as bankruptcy judge in Illinois

Chief Judge Michael B. Brennan announced on May 26 that the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has reappointed Bankruptcy Judge Thomas M. Lynch to another 14-year term, set to begin when his current term expires on January 1, 2027. Judge Lynch serves as a bankruptcy judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, with his office located in the Stanley J. Roszkowski U.S. Courthouse.

Brennan said that both the bar and public were surveyed extensively during the reappointment process, and that “Judge Lynch is highly regarded as a judge.”

Lynch was first sworn in as a bankruptcy judge in 2013. He earned his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Dayton, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. Before joining the bench, he served as an adjunct member of Northwestern’s faculty and taught at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He also worked as counsel at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP in its business litigation department.

The Illinois Bar Association supports more than 28,000 members by providing continuing legal education, practice management resources, professional networking opportunities, promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives, recognizing excellence through awards for pro bono service and diversity leadership, utilizing its Bar Center for administrative operations, and operating under an elected president along with a Board of Governors and Assembly, according to the official website.
