The Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the fourth-annual Gary Wieneke Memorial on May 2 at Demirjian Park, with three athletes recording top-10 program marks in their events.
The event highlighted achievements from both teams, including Katharina Graman’s long jump win with a mark of 6.39 meters, which ranks fifth-best in school history. Gator Young secured victory in the pole vault with a height of 5.34 meters, placing him seventh all-time for the program. Trey Sato won the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:42.18, making it the eighth-fastest performance in Illinois records.
Other notable performances included Jonathan Kapitolnik winning the high jump by matching his season-best of 2.15 meters and Emma Haeggblom taking first place in the women’s high jump at 1.80 meters. The decathlon relay team—Tim Pelkmans, Andreas Hantson, Jip de Greef, and Luuk Pelkmans—won their race with a time of 3:12.44.
The University of Illinois Fighting Illini women’s track and field program participates in both indoor and outdoor competitions according to the official website.
