House Minority Leader Tony McCombie announced on May 11 the launch of her summer reading program, Reading Buzz. This marks the tenth year that McCombie has supported the initiative to encourage students in the 89th District to read during their summer break.
The program aims to help students develop a love for reading by creating a fun challenge. Books read as part of Reading Buzz can also be counted toward other programs, such as those offered by local libraries. According to McCombie, “This program has become a powerful way to encourage students to make reading fun, stay engaged during the summer months, and feel rewarded for their hard work and dedication.”
Entries for Reading Buzz are due by July 15. An electronic form is available on Leader McCombie’s website at https://repmccombie.com/reading-buzz/. Families are invited to join McCombie at her annual Sweet Corn Day event in Savanna on August 1 for recognition and a special treat.
McCombie, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 89th House District, replacing previous state representative Andrew Chesney, according to repmccombie.com.
Constituents with questions about the program are encouraged to contact McCombie’s office at (815) 291-8989.
