The Village of Western Springs announced on May 7 that the Touch-A-Truck event will take place Saturday, May 16, on the Tower Green. The event is set to run from 9 a.m. to noon, with a sensory-friendly hour from 9 to 10 a.m. during which no horns will be used.
The event invites children and families to explore large vehicles, sit behind the wheel, and meet community members who build, protect, and serve. Organizers said the event is free and open to everyone.
Western Springs operates under a council-manager government system that separates policy-making from administration and delivers public services through professional staff supporting advisory boards, according to the official website. Resident volunteers participate on boards and commissions to address community issues and provide recommendations. The village manager supervises personnel and carries out policies established by the village president and board of trustees, who serve as elected volunteers.
Village offices are located at 740 Hillgrove Avenue in Western Springs, according to the official website.
The Touch-A-Truck event reflects ongoing efforts by local government officials and resident volunteers in Western Springs to engage families in community activities while providing opportunities for children to learn about public service roles.
