Two women’s golfers from Southern Illinois University, Amelia Zingler and Calli Smith, were named to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Team on April 22. To earn this recognition, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and participate in at least half of their team’s events during the season.
The selection highlights academic achievement among collegiate athletes. Both Zingler and Smith are Sports Administration majors who balanced their studies with athletic commitments for the Salukis Women’s Golf team.
Smith leads her team academically with a 3.933 GPA and also posted the second-best scoring average on the squad at 79.3 strokes per round. She achieved several top-10 finishes throughout the season. Zingler holds a 3.53 GPA, finished with an average score of 82.4 per round, and placed in the top-40 three times this year.
