UL Solutions announced on May 15 that several electric scooter models are bearing unauthorized UL certification marks and may pose safety risks. The affected models include AS-STR280, GT08, M1, M2 Plus, M3 Max, M6 Pro, and Z2.

The notice is significant as it highlights potential hazards for consumers who may believe these products have met recognized safety standards. UL Solutions said these scooters have not been evaluated to the appropriate safety standards and it is unknown whether they meet any safety requirements. The organization recommends that the products be removed from service.

According to UL Solutions, some of the affected scooters were sold at electronics stores in New Jersey and online. The model AS-STR280 may display the name “Alpha Z3,” while GT08 may show “Alpha E-Bike.” Other models such as M1, M2 Plus, M3 Max and M6 Pro might bear the name “Space Ride,” and Z2 could be labeled as “Lvhu.” All of these products carry unauthorized UL Marks on their labels.

Sherry He, vice president and general manager of Consumer, Medical and Information Technologies at UL Solutions said: “UL Solutions helps e-mobility companies demonstrate trust in their products and technologies. Through our testing, certification and advisory services, we empower organizations to innovate with confidence while helping to protect the well-being of consumers and communities worldwide.”

UL Solutions offers evaluation, testing and certification services for personal e-mobility devices such as e-scooters and e-bikes to help manufacturers demonstrate their products meet essential safety requirements. These requirements include electrical drivetrain components as well as battery system combinations along with fire safety certifications.

The company describes itself as a global leader in applied safety science serving customers in more than 110 countries.
