UL Solutions announced on May 15 that certain fire sprinklers sold by Fujian Guangbo Fire Equipment Co. Ltd. in China are bearing unauthorized UL certification marks for the United States and Canada, raising concerns about their safety.

The company said these products, specifically model GL5651, have not been evaluated to appropriate safety standards by UL Solutions. It is unknown whether they meet any required safety criteria. As a result, UL Solutions recommends that these fire sprinklers be removed from service and replaced with properly certified alternatives.

The affected devices can be identified by the following label information: “GLOBE”, “2024 Product Model: GL5651”, and “Temperature: 155F/68C.” The notice clarifies that authentic Globe manufactured Model GL5651 fire sprinklers have a date code on the deflector rather than the sprinkler frame and do not use an O-Ring seal.

“The presence of unauthorized UL Marks on these devices is a serious concern,” said Karine Johnfroe, vice president and general manager of the Built Environment group at UL Solutions. “We urge anyone who has purchased these devices to remove them from service immediately and replace them with properly certified fire sprinklers.”

UL Solutions has played a role in advancing fire and life safety technology since 1894 through training, advisory services, testing, inspection, and certification for detection technologies used in various industries.

Looking ahead, UL Solutions says it will continue to provide services supporting product innovation while emphasizing its commitment to safety as represented by its certification mark.
