University of Illinois recognizes 121 Fighting Illini student-athlete graduates in commencement ceremonies

The University of Illinois announced on May 15 that a total of 121 current and former Fighting Illini student-athletes will earn degrees during the 2025-26 academic year, with 90 participating in commencement ceremonies at Memorial Stadium this weekend.

This milestone highlights the academic achievements of student-athletes across multiple sports programs at the university. The degrees are being awarded throughout the year, including 91 in May, an expected 11 in August, and another 20 in December.

Graduates represent a wide range of sports teams such as baseball, basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field/cross country for both men and women, volleyball and wrestling. Degree recipients include undergraduate majors like communication and psychology as well as graduate certificates and master’s degrees in fields such as business analytics and strategic leadership.

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Men’s Track and Field program emphasizes team spirit and individual achievement while contributing to the university’s athletic tradition. It provides opportunities for competition, development and academic success under a coaching staff focused on training and performance. Student-athletes participate in both indoor and outdoor meets within NCAA Division I athletics as part of the Big Ten Conference according to the official website.

The recognition of these graduates underscores the balance between athletics participation at a high level with continued commitment to education. The achievements reflect not only personal milestones for each athlete but also reinforce the university’s focus on supporting student development inside classrooms as well as on athletic fields.
