Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt said on Apr. 22 that he hosted a Veterans’ Advisory meeting at the Dupo American Legion Post #485 over the weekend. Schmidt said working to improve the lives of veterans and their families is a top priority for him, and that hearing directly from veterans in the 114th District helps him be their voice at the Capitol.
Schmidt thanked those who attended, as well as Post Commander Brian Humphrey and American Legion Department of Illinois Legislative Chairman Larry Miller for their participation. He also acknowledged Sugar & Sage Cafe for providing donuts to attendees.
Schmidt, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 114th House District, replacing previous state representative LaToya Greenwood according to Ballotpedia.
The event included information about resources available for veterans in Illinois. According to Schmidt, “The State of Illinois offers a variety of programs and resources for veterans and their families. Here you will find a collection of federal, state, and local services available to veterans on a wide variety of issues.”
