Staab Funeral Home in Springfield has been honored for its efforts to help veterans with fundraising, memorial designs and veterans parks, according to a press release.

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) chose Staab for its third-quarter Illinois Veterans’ Business and Appreciation Award.

During its 80 years in business, the Staab family has hosted the “Ride in Honor” event to raise funds for veterans’ memorials, helped design the Purple Heart Memorial in Springfield’s Oak Ridge Cemetery, and provided financial support to the Honor Flight Program, among other activities benefiting veterans, the press release said.

“The Staab Family have not forgotten the veteran or active-duty service member. And they are reminding our youth of our military’s sacrifice and keeping our nation’s history alive by supporting the Illinois World War II Classroom Project,” IDVA Director Erica Jeffries said in the statement. “This is a well-deserved award for a family who works to honor all veterans every day of the year.”
