The Village announced on April 18 that sandbags are now available for self-serve pick up at 600 North Avenue, outside the gate of the Public Works Department. This measure is in response to heavy rainfall and current river levels affecting properties adjacent to the Des Plaines River.
The announcement aims to help residents protect their homes from potential flooding. The availability of sandbags reflects efforts by local authorities to mitigate flood risks during periods of increased rainfall.
According to the Village, this precautionary step was taken “out of an abundance of caution” for those living near the river. Residents are encouraged to collect sandbags as needed.
Officials said they will continue monitoring conditions closely. Any updates regarding river levels or additional safety measures will be shared through social media and the Village website.
As weather patterns remain unpredictable, community members are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
