Washington Savings Bank donated $15,000 to the “Expanding Hope” campaign of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation on May 20. The funds will help support the expansion of the Regional Cancer Center.

The donation is part of ongoing efforts by Washington Savings Bank to support healthcare initiatives in the region. Just months earlier, the bank made a similar contribution to the SBL Effingham Specialty Pavilion. Kim Uphoff, President and CEO of Sarah Bush Lincoln, said, “These most recent gifts are a true display of Washington Savings Bank’s dedication to its customers, our patients and this region. Washington Savings has been around for more than 140 years and through the generosity of its leaders, has helped to ignite so much growth throughout East Central Illinois. We’re very thankful for this valued partnership and commitment to healthcare.”

Construction on the $17.2 million project began in early April and will add 15,000 square feet to the existing facility. When complete, it will include dedicated space for additional targeted treatments, expand chemotherapy bays from 17 to 34, add exam rooms and waiting areas, and create a separate wing for non-oncology infusion services.

David Doedtman, President of Washington Savings Bank said, “Our mission at Washington Savings Bank is to serve our customers and this donation is another way that we can do just that. The Regional Cancer Center provides care to so many, and we wanted to do our part to help fund this vital expansion and support those battling the disease now and in the future.” Amy Card, director of SBL Health Foundation added that employees also host fundraisers benefiting programs such as their Heart Center and Mobile Mammography: “The Bank not only so generously supports our growth through gifts to capital campaigns, but employees also host fundraisers where proceeds benefit programs like our Heart Center and Mobile Mammography,” Card said.

Sarah Bush Lincoln is an independent not-for-profit regional health system with more than 3,000 employees serving East Central Illinois through hospitals in Mattoon (165 beds) and Vandalia (25 beds), over 57 clinics as well as specialty centers including cancer care facilities according to the official website. The organization has received recognition from Women’s Choice Awards as well as high-performing status from U.S. News & World Report according to its official website.
