The City of Peoria announced on May 8 that both northbound and southbound right lanes on S.W. Washington Street between Persimmon Street and Walnut Street will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 11. The closure is scheduled to last four weeks, depending on weather conditions.

The lane closures are necessary to allow for sidewalk improvements along this section of Washington Street. The city advises drivers to use caution in the area and consider alternative routes during the construction period.

According to the announcement, “Drivers should be mindful of these lane closures and use extra caution in the area. The use of alternative routes is advised.” No additional background information or context was provided regarding the scope or funding of the sidewalk improvement project.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan ahead as delays may occur due to reduced lanes. Updates will be provided if there are changes in schedule due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
