Western Illinois University Leathernecks Men’s Baseball will finish its regular season at home facing the Eastern Illinois Panthers, according to a May 13 announcement. The series is scheduled for May 14-16 at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium in Macomb, with game times set for 2:00 PM on Thursday and 1:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday.

The matchup is significant as it continues one of the most played rivalries in Western Illinois baseball history. Since 1948, the two teams have met 159 times, with Eastern Illinois leading the all-time series at 101–57–1. This longstanding competition is considered the most frequently played series between Western Illinois and any single opponent in WIU Athletics history.

In their previous games, Western Illinois dropped three straight contests against Morehead State despite consistent offensive performances. Key contributors included Liam Bushey and Kamryn Link with home runs in Game 1, Joe Connolly’s two doubles in Game 2, and a team effort that erased a six-run deficit in Game 3 before ultimately falling short late in each contest.

Eastern Illinois enters this series as an experienced group aiming to improve its position within the Ohio Valley Conference by focusing on balanced play rather than power hitting. Offensively, they are expected to apply pressure through contact hitting and situational play.

Several Leathernecks players rank among conference leaders: Liam Bushey stands fourth in RBIs (58) and sixth in home runs (14), while Joe Connolly is third for runs scored (59). Western Illinois University Leathernecks Men’s Baseball competes at the NCAA Division I level and maintains membership in the Ohio Valley Conference; it operates from Macomb, fosters student-athlete development, boasts alumni who reached Major League Baseball such as Rick and Paul Reuschel from the late 1960s, and contributes to university athletic heritage through community engagement traditions according to the official website.
