The Western Illinois University Leathernecks men’s golf team will finish its season at the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament in West Lafayette, Indiana, starting April 26.
The tournament marks the final event of the year for the Leathernecks, who compete at the NCAA Division I level and maintain membership in the Ohio Valley Conference, according to the official website. The team recently participated in the Hawkeye Invitational in Riverside, Iowa, where they showed improvement across three rounds. Mateo Rascon led with a score of +3 (T18), while Owen Howe and other teammates contributed consistent performances throughout the event.
This season, Western Illinois was predicted to finish eleventh in the OVC preseason poll. Sophomore Owen Howe was named to the conference’s Players to Watch list after his performance last year. The team returns key players including Bayden Hubacher and Nathan Tillman—both played all four events last season—as well as Rascon and Howe.
The OVC Tournament will be held at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on a par-72 course measuring 5,300 yards. The format includes three rounds of stroke play followed by two rounds of match play beginning Sunday morning. Competing teams include SIUE, Tennessee Tech, Little Rock, Lindenwood, UT Martin, Tennessee State, Morehead State, Bryant University, Southern Indiana and Eastern Illinois.
